Development of Mickey Mouse
Some may mistake Mickey Mouse to be Disney's first creation when in fact Disney's first creation was a cartoon character named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. This rabbit was somewhat popular but Disney knew he had not struck gold yet so he kept on searching for the right character he wanted. Sure enough, in 1928, Disney and his wife took a train trip and it was then that he came up with the idea of a mouse called Mortimer. Disney actually based the mouse's design of of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. However Mortimer was not a very catchy name so his wife rejected that name, so Disney decided to change the mouse's name from Mortimer to Mickey. Although the first two film shorts with Mickey in it were not popular, he made his debut of Mickey Mouse in November 18th of 1928 in a cartoon called Steamboat Willie that grabbed everyone's attention. Mickey Mouse's first words were "Hot dog!" One of the most apparent physical differences about the Mickey Mouse back then and the Mickey Mouse now is his white gloves as well as many other things:
Mickey Mouse quickly became popular and became a comic book character in 1930. Mickey soon got a girlfriend, Minnie, two nephews, Morty and Ferdie, and a dog named Pluto. Mickey Mouse starred in over one hundred movies and the main event in many of Disney's theme parks. There is not a child in the world that doesn't know the face of Mickey Mouse.
